REMEMBER FOOD IS MEDICINE! "Your body can heal itself. It can do so because it has a healing system. If you are in good health you will want to know about this system, because it is what keeps you in good health and because you can enhance that condition. If you or people you love are sick, you will want to know about this system because it it is the best hope for recovery."-Dr. Andrew Weil

For years folks have asked me about my diet and since most dedicated yoginis take the health of their temples very seriously, I want to share my knowledge in nutrition & some insight and recipes I love. Nutrition has been a hobby of mine for decades (after losing loved ones to disease) and I have obtained certifications in Naturopathy and as a Nutritarian Coach (Dr. Fuhrman). I believe our nutrition should compliment our mind/body alignment to achieve our goals in health & harmony while also being yummy. Always check with your physician about any diet of course!

Here are the guidelines of my diet

Most days I intermittent fast (more on that later) so I usually skip breakfast. I almost always try to have dinner eaten by 6-7 PM and usually have lunch or brunch between 11-1. I drink green tea in the morning and I always try to drink at least 2 liters of water daily. I also try to fit in Barley Green with tomato juice daily as well. I eat almost completely vegan now because after much study, I believe it is superior for my health. I am a FIRM believer that you are what you eat! Luckily, I was raised mostly on homegrown organic vegetables, learned a lot about nutrition early, and most of all, I just love fruits and vegetables. My favorite meals are as follows (and I will share recipes from time to time). For brunch I choose between or a combo of: steel-cut oatmeal, grits, whole wheat toast, berries & fresh squeezed OJ. Lunch & dinners: Whole grain pasta with raw sauce (recipe below), raw salads, various vegetable broths & soups, beans...always beans, veggie stir-fries, veggie plates, veggie burgers and various recipes of roasted vegetables.

This is my all time favorite comfort dish! a
take on a recipe from Lidia Bastianich

Whole grain pasta with raw tomato sauce:

The sauce (2 servings):

*1 pint cherry tomatoes

*16 large basil leaves

*large garlic clove (look up "The 10 Minute Garlic Rule")

*1 button mushroom (among the most powerful breast cancer chemo-preventive properties so I add often)

*handful of raw almonds

*pinch of Celtic sea salt (no salt is healthiest per Fuhrman) & crushed red pepper flakes

BLEND ALL INGREDIENTS AND SERVE OVER WHOLE GRAIN PASTA (I LOVE DELALLO ANGEL HAIR)

*Opt: I sprinkle 3 scoops of Nutritional Yeast Flakes (non-fortified!) over the pasta and under the sauce, yum!
